Casa Flor
Living my whole life in Mexico City, flowers have always been omnipresent in my day to day. In an attempt to search for traditional Mexican art working with flowers while thinking of new ways to create dialogues about sustainability in the city, I started to play around with the idea of an installation art piece with flowers. Casa Flor is a proposed temporary community space aimed to preserve Mexico’s cultural heritage related to floriculture while promoting modern cohabitation with plants and flowers in the metropolis. Casa Flor would be a living museum dedicated to the anthropology of Mexico’s flower arts by exhibiting traditional crafts involving flowers, such as floral banners used for religious holidays. It would also be an urban green space open to the public for leisure, admiration, and education on flowers’ and plants’ role in daily Mexican life. This project is inspired by the work of the Detroit's Flower House and is still in progress.
